MMT is thrilled to announce A SEASON OF PREMIERES!

EVIL DEAD: THE MUSICAL
- Area Premiere / Fall 2010
Book and Lyrics by George Reinblatt
Music by Frank Cipolla, Christopher Bond, Melissa Morris and George Reinblatt

Directed by Steven Meerdink
Music Direction by Lori Maxwell

Evil Dead: The Musical is a hilarious stage musical that takes all the elements of the cult classic films, Evil Dead 1, Evil Dead 2, and Army of Darkness then combines them to make one of the craziest theatrical experiences of all time!  Five college students go to an abandoned cabin in the woods, and accidently unleash an evil force that turns them into demons.  It's all up to Ash (a housewares employee, turned demon killing hero), and his trusty chainsaw to save the day.
Blood flies … Limbs dismembered … Demons tell bad jokes ... and all to music.

BARE - Area Premiere / Winter 2011
Book by Jon Hartmere, Jr. and Damon Intrabartolo
Music by Damon Intrabartolo
Lyrics by Jon Hartmere
Directed by Steven Meerdink
Set in a Catholic boarding school, this poignant coming-of-age story focuses on the love relationship between two boys: Peter, socially awkward and sensitive, and Jason, the golden boy popular jock.  Witness the struggles, trials and tribulations they go through to keep their relationship alive yet hidden, and how their love affects all those around them.  Bare is a beautiful and heartbreaking story of questioning adults, religion and everything we were ever taught.

DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS- Area Premiere / Spring 2011

Book by Jeffrey Lane

Music and Lyrics by David Yazbek

Based on the film written by Dale Launer and Stanley Shapiro & Paul Henning

Directed by Christine Karki

We're off to the Riviera with Broadway's smash-hit musical comedy Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. This is the story of two con men (played by Joseph Bombard & Steven Meerdink) who try to out-con each other. When it becomes apparent that the Riviera isn't big enough for the both of them, they make a winner-take-all wager over the fortunes of a naïve American soap heiress: the first one to "clean her out" can make the other clear out and keep the Riviera and its unsuspecting tourists to himself! This hysterical musical comedy will have you laughing out of your seat!

THE GREAT AMERICAN TRAILER PARK MUSICAL
Area Premiere
Music and Lyrics - David Nehls
Book - Betsy Kelso
November 6 - 22, 2009

Note: This production contains adult language.
Armadillo Acres is Florida's most exclusive mobile home community.  But when a stripper on the run comes between an agoraphobic housewife and her tollbooth collector husband, the hurricane of laughter begins to brew.  Complete with a trashy Greek chorus of trailer park divas, this campy, caustic musical fable is rife with adultery, sleaze and murderous ex-boyfriends.  "South Park meets Desperate Housewives in this big-hearted new musical comedy." - NY Sun

BIG RIVER: THE ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN
Music and Lyrics - Roger Miller
Book - William Hauptman
Based on Mark Twain's 1884 classic novel

April 9 - 25, 2010
 (updated performance dates)
Come along for the adventure of a lifetime!  Join Huck Finn and the runaway slave Jim on a musical trip down the Mississippi River in Mark Twain's classic tale.  Their adventures are hilarious, suspenseful and heartwarming.  This musical is propelled by Roger Miller's award winning score and brings to life all your favorite characters, including a rascally pair of river drifters, a grieving heiress and - of course - Tom Sawyer.  "A rousing, high spirited show that sets your hands to clapping, your feet to stomping and your heart to rise within you!" - WCBS-TV

Mame image

MAME
Music and Lyrics - Jerry Herman
Book - Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee
Based on the novel, 'Auntie Mame' by Patrick Dennis
June 11 - 27, 2010 (updated performance dates)
We're putting a surprising twist on a classic musical as MMT co-founder, Kevin Hansen assumes the title role.  Mame's wild, adventurous spirit is inside everyone who lives for the moment and believes that 'life is a banquet!'  In the height of the roaring 20's, ten-year-old Patrick is sent to live with his larger-than-life Auntie Mame, where he's exposed to her wealthy friends and free-wheeling lifestyle.  Both Mame and Patrick's lives are turned upside down as they struggle to form a family through wild, turbulent times and still live life to its fullest.   "In an era of global uncertainty and angst, Jerry Herman's joyful classics seem like tonics for the soul." - Backstage West

Morning Matinee Theatre
BIG RIVER

Minneapolis Musical Theatre has always provided affordable access for Twin Cities’ audiences to new or rarely produced musical theatre productions.  Our mission includes supporting the art of the American musical by exposing those who have little or no experience with it, especially younger audiences.

On the heels of our successful “Morning Matinee Theatre” production of The Secret Garden during our last season, Minneapolis Musical Theatre is excited to offer an opportunity for high school and junior high school student groups!  On April 22, 2010 at 10:00 a.m., we are thrilled to present a special “Morning Matinee Theatre” performance of Big River: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, based on Mark Twain’s 1884 unforgettable classic.

Attending this performance is an excellent opportunity to enhance your students’ educational experience by using American Musical Theatre.  We hope to spark a lifelong appreciation for the theatre in your students.

If you are interested in pursuing this distinctive educational opportunity, please contact Christine Karki at auditions@aboutmmt.org.
